Academic Secretariat

The role of the Academic Secretariat is to institutionalize FADEU at the level of the Faculty and its academic units, in accordance with the current Strategic Plan and the University’s regulatory and legal framework. It is headed by the Academic Secretary, the Faculty’s sole authority as defined by its Statutes (Rectoral Decree No. 171/2013). The position must be held by a professor in the Faculty’s ordinary category, and the appointment is made by the Rector upon the Dean’s proposal and with the agreement of the Faculty Council.

Andrés Villela

Academic Secretary

Designer from the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, and Master’s in Business Innovation from the University of Girona. Since 2016, he has been a professor at the School of Design, where he has held roles such as Associate Director for Transfer and Development and Associate Academic Director. Previously, he pursued a long academic career at DuocUC, associated with the School of Design, eventually becoming Academic Vice President.

His teaching and research focus on Strategic Design and Innovation, especially from a sustainable relationships perspective. He currently teaches the Strategic Design Studio, leading work with corporate counterparts and community partners under the Service-Learning model. In research and development, his work stands out in FONDEF projects in manufacturing and education, as well as engagement in innovation and entrepreneurship projects. He currently leads the Erasmus+ HEADCET project at UC.

At UC, he has been recognized by the VRI as best Technology Manager and by the VRA with the PRED award, in addition to being part of several working committees.

Functions of the Academic Secretary (Art. 19 of the Faculty Statutes):

  1. Act as a Certifying Officer in matters related to the Faculty and its Units, and ensure compliance with the University’s norms, Statutes, and Regulations within the Faculty;
  2. Maintain the minutes and the Faculty archives;
  3. Act as Secretary of the Faculty Council, with the right to speak but not to vote;
  4. Certify relevant facts in accordance with the regulations issued by the University’s General Secretariat;
  5. Act as Secretary of the Search Committee for Dean candidates, with the right to speak but not to vote, and as Secretary of the Search Committees for Directors of the Faculty’s Academic Units, with the right to speak but not to vote;
  6. Supervise all appointments generated within the Faculty; and
  7. Supervise and certify all electoral acts carried out within the Faculty.

Faculty Council

The Faculty Council is the primary collegiate authority of FADEU. According to Article 33 of the Faculty Statutes, it is composed of:

  1. The Dean, who presides over it;
  2. The Academic Secretary, who convenes and moderates, with the right to speak but not to vote;
  3. The Director of the School of Architecture;
  4. The Director of the School of Design;
  5. The Director of the Institute of Urban and Territorial Studies;
  6. Five representatives of the Faculty’s academics, elected by vote;
  7. Two undergraduate student representatives (one from the School of Architecture and one from the School of Design), plus one graduate student representative from the Faculty. Invited members include a representative of undergraduate students from the Urban Planning professional degree and a representative from the Doctorate in Architecture and Urban Studies.

    The Faculty Council meets on the first Wednesday of each month at the Lo Contador Campus. Starting from ordinary session No. 143 on June 1, 2022, an executive version of the minutes will be published, publicly reporting on the topics discussed and the agreements reached. Executive Committee

The Executive Committee is responsible for coordinating the Faculty’s various activities, primarily the articulation of its three Academic Units, academic staff, interdisciplinary courses, and common outreach agenda. It includes the Gender Equality and Respectful Treatment Unit and the Faculty’s Economic and Management Directorate. It has the authority to approve new Continuing Education programs conducted within the Faculty.

The Executive Committee is currently composed of the following individuals:

3. Osvaldo Moreno, Director of the School of Architecture;

4. Patricia Manns, Director of the School of Design;

Unit Academic Councils

The Academic Councils of the School of Architecture, the School of Design, and the Institute of Urban and Territorial Studies are the highest collegiate authorities of the Academic Units. These councils are presided over by the Dean when present, or by the Unit Director, and include a defined number of academics from the ordinary and special tracks elected by their peers, as established in each unit’s regulations. Elected members serve a two-year term, and one among them assumes the role of Secretary for each council, reporting the minutes to the Faculty’s Academic Secretariat to be made available to the community at the following link: Academic Council Minutes.
