Research Center for Integrated Disaster Risk Management

The Research Center for Integrated Disaster Risk Management (CIGIDEN) generates knowledge to prevent extreme natural events from becoming disasters, bringing together researchers from different disciplines, such as earth sciences, engineering, social sciences, geography, economics, design, architecture, urban planning, and communication sciences.

This interdisciplinary approach has promoted a profound academic transformation, advancing from the study of natural hazards and emergency response toward a comprehensive perspective focused on disaster risk reduction and resilience building. Our scientific production is internationally recognized, and CIGIDEN’s public policy proposals and technological transfer contributions are having a positive impact on people’s lives. We believe that scientific research of excellence is only possible with knowledge, presence, and roots in the territory, achieved through the construction of collaborative relationships and permanent dialogue with individuals, communities, and decision-makers.
