Lo Contador Pastoral

UC Pastoral

The Pastoral Ministry of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile seeks to fulfill the Church’s mission at the university through various activities, gatherings, projects, and services, bringing to life a disciple-making and outward-reaching church.

Its objective is to serve the units and departments of UC, so that its members can develop spiritually and have spaces for prayer, fostering communal and sacramental life, as well as celebrating liturgical seasons and developing projects that engage with culture, generating community and spaces for encounter. In this way, it seeks to accompany members of the community through faith and promote solidarity actions both within and outside UC, thus establishing itself as a central part of the university.

UC Pastoral presupposes the leading role of the laity for its development and requires the close accompaniment of consecrated individuals who, in addition to celebrating the sacraments—when they are priests—guide the path of other members of the university community, giving life to a discipleship-oriented and outward-looking church.

Lo Contador Pastoral

The Lo Contador Pastoral is made up of a group of people that brings together academics, staff, professionals, and students from both programs on campus into a single body. With excellent teamwork and the goal of bringing Christ to every corner of the Campus, it develops projects and proposes topics for reflection.

In recent years, the emphasis of the Lo Contador Pastoral has primarily been placed on three areas: communal life, liturgical life, and its social dimension.

Community life

Community life

A community of students has formed who find in the Pastoral a home with Christ at the center—a place to live friendship and encounter, as well as to receive formation in the faith that enables them to face the challenges that, as students and future professionals, they will have to face. In this community, different charisms and perspectives are shared, and together they take on the task of carrying out different projects and apostolic initiatives that can bring the Gospel to life in the midst of campus.

Liturgical life

Liturgical life

The Eucharist is a privileged place of encounter and the center of the work of the Pastoral of Lo Contador, since a large part of the community and formation activities take place immediately after the 1:00 PM Eucharist.

A space has also been created, promoted by Pastoral Choirs, in which students are invited to put their gifts at the service of others through singing during Masses, rosaries, sung adorations, among others.

Saint Joseph I March 19

Social dimension

Through various initiatives, the Pastoral of Lo Contador has sought to serve in social projects where students can apply knowledge from the design and architecture programs, such as the Saint Joseph Works, freshman outreach operations, and by participating in interventions in chapels or areas in need, where students spend a weekend providing their services and accompanying the communities.

Patron Saint of the Faculty: Saint Joseph | March 19

A carpenter and husband of Mary, he was declared the patron saint of the universal Church. He lovingly cared for the Virgin and devoted himself with joyful effort to the education of Jesus Christ, whom he served and protected exemplarily.
